Manipur Police Commandos Attacked: Unidentified gunmen targeted police commandos in Moreh, Manipur on Saturday (December 30) at around 3:50 pm. There was a shootout between the gunmen and the police commandos. News agency PTI gave this information quoting officials.

Eyewitnesses said that unidentified gunmen targeted the vehicles carrying police commandos when they were moving towards Key Location Point (KLP) from Moreh.

Policeman hit by shrapnel

An official confirmed that a policeman was injured by shrapnel in the attack while crossing the M Chahanau village section of the Imphal-Moreh road. The officer said that the injured policeman is being treated at 5 Assam Rifles Camp.

According to initial reports, indiscriminate firing was going on near New Moreh entrance and M Chahanou village. According to sources, two houses were also set on fire in Moreh. Let us tell you that Manipur has been struggling with caste violence for the last seven months.

Village security man shot dead

In a separate incident around 3.30 am on Saturday A person posted for security of a village was shot dead by unknown people in Kadangband of Imphal West district in Manipur. Police informed about this incident

According to news agency PTI, police said that the deceased has been identified as Jamesbod Ningombam. Police said Jamesbaud was on guard duty at Ningombam village and was killed when suspected militants attacked from a nearby hill.

According to the police, Ningombam’s body was sent to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences for post-mortem. Kadangband shares its border with Kangpokpi district, where the state has witnessed frequent incidents of violence since May 3.

We will not spare the culprits – CM N Biren Singh

According to NDTV report, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has condemned the murder of the youth. The CM told the media, “Some bad elements are trying to disturb peace in the state. This is an unfortunate incident and we strongly condemn this incident. The search operation is going on to catch the culprits. We will not spare the culprits.

“Many civil society groups are working hard to restore peace in the state,” he said. This latest incident is extremely condemnable. Let’s talk and resolve the issues peacefully.
